The Promise of Zion Series Review

You don’t read many novels on what happened to Jews after the war, but this is one of the few! A lot of them focus on the Holocaust or hiding during the war. This series is unique in that the focus is on the Jews return to their homeland. One of my favorite series as a young adult, this series is a must for anyone looking to add clean young fiction for young readers, to their libraries.
As you can see I'm missing a few books from my personal collection :(
Book 1 - Promise Breaker- the first book in the Promise of Zion series. WW II has ended and Dov Zalinski is determined to carry out his parents' wish of journeying to Palestine. There he meets Emily Parkinson, daughter of a British major, and begins to change her mind about the Jewish refugees.
Book 2 - Peace Rebel- Dov and Emily survive a bombing and are taken to a Jewish settlement in Galilee. Emily wants to return to her father, but when she is kidnapped by members of a Jewish terrorist group her only hope rests with Dov."
Book 3 - Refugee Treasure- continues in 1947 when the two teenagers from different backgrounds are thrown together once again as the United Nations votes to create the state of Israel.
Book 4 -Brother Enemy- The fighting between Jews and Arabs before the British withdrawal from Palestine in 1948 brings hardship and danger to both Dov, the young Jewish refugee from Poland, and Emily, the daughter of a British officer.
Book 5 - Freedom Trap- In 1948 while on her way back to England from war-torn Jerusalem, Emily is delayed on Cyprus, where she finds out information about her new friend and wonders how she can get this news back to him.
Book 6 - True Betrayer - More than gunfire is now threatening their survival. Is their unplanned Mission the answer?
Clean, with compelling story lines and on point historical content. Dov’s journey to his homeland and to find his missing family is paired beautifully alongside, Emily’s journey to becoming a kind and understanding ally.
And no sexual content!!
Questions arise throughout the series, and the author touches on subjects like Christian growth, forgiveness and how to trust God in difficult circumstances.
Great Christian reads for young readers and young adults.
Given that this does take place in Palestine, there are some grittier details about some of the atrocities the Jews faced during the Holocaust and at the hands of the British, who would not let them re-enter their homeland. This is handled tastefully however, and the author does not go into gory or explicit details.
A must read for young readers and young adults!
