Why We Started Tables of the Heart

Updated: May 6, 2023

Proverbs 3:3

"Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: Bind them about thy neck;

WRITE THEM UPON THE TABLES OF THINE HEART:"

Our hearts are very sensitive things. All of the five senses affect the heart.

And I'm not talking about that organ beating inside your chest. I'm talking about your spiritual heart.

As a child, our hearts are very vulnerable. They are tender, easily written upon. Children are affected deeply by things that adults have grown hard to. Their imaginations are open and they are innately curious and wonder at everything around them.

What is being written on the tables of your children's hearts ?

Young adults are more aware of things. They understand more about the realities of life. And sadly, many teenagers have been exposed to so much garbage, that their tables are already in a pretty awful state.

As Christian parents, we have a responsibility to guide and direct them towards those things that are pure, honest, lovely, and of good report.

Truth.

What is being written on the table of your teenager's heart?

These are questions we parents ask ourselves daily. And we feel the urgency. To provide them with the good things that God has provided in life, and to keep them from the evil influences of the world and the wicked one.

I see the carnage happening every day. In the world, but also sadly, in our churches too. More and more, ungodly philosophies that go directly against the word of God are not just being tolerated.

They are being accepted.

I remember struggling as teenager to find wholesome, clean fiction to read. Because so much of it is full of agendas. Even quote on quote Christian fiction is full of it.

And don't fool yourself. It AFFECTS the hearts.

It gets written there.

So our desire is to push back. We will not let this stuff in our homes. We will be vigilant to protect the tables of the heart so that GOD can write what HE wants there.

We want to provide clean Christian fiction. Memorable, wholesome stories that inspire, excite, and challenge young adults. We want to satisfy a child's curiosity with the pure things that God has created.

So how do we intend to do that?

Well, Rose and I are both in the process of writing our own books! We plan to add to the shelf of clean Christian fiction available for young adults and children.

But there's more we want to do. We don't claim to be the only ones in the world writing clean Christian fiction.

Book reviews for young adult Christian fiction, an open book with glasses and dried flowers on a blanket

At Tables of the Heart, you will find us reviewing books in order to help parents and young people find the good stuff to read. Check back regularly to see what we have found!

Alongside book reviews, We want to inspire and encourage anyone out there, young person, or adult, who has the same desire to create good stories; Write with us! Let's get those stories bursting inside of us, out into written form where they can bless another out there just waiting for it!

Writing clean Christian fiction, a book, dried roses, and a cup of tea on a saucer

We are juggling many hats. Marriage, motherhood, homeschooling, homemaking, writing, and plenty of other things. One would say, "You don't have time to do all those things. You can't do all of those things and do them well."

I heartily disagree. We prioritize accordingly, and we make the time!

Do I believe that our calling as wives and mothers is to our families and homes first and foremost?

Yes. Absolutely.

But I also don't believe for a second that God has given talents and gifts out to us mothers just to be sat on because we have to care for the home and family!

You can do both! And you can do both well. ( If you don't believe me, read the Proverbs 31 woman and then tell me she also wasn't juggling many hats!!!)

We know there are many more of you, like us, out there! We want to encourage you moms who have the dream to write clean fiction, or else desire to do something creative or industrious. If you have a talent that God has given you, don't bury it.

You never know what God will do unless you try!

So grab your cup of tea ( or coffee....Rose and I like tea, but even if you are in the coffee club, we promise not to hold it against you.) and hang out with us here! Join the conversation! We want to know how you are using that talent that God has given to you!

What are some good reads you have found?

Tell us about them! We would love to check them out, and review them for other parents and young people looking for great titles! Don't be shy! Talk to us in the comments below!

Are you writing a book? A story? We would LOVE to hear about it! Tell us in the comments! We want to know what you are working on!
