Tales From Dust River Gulch by author Tim Davis, a book review by Tables of the Heart

Book Summary

"Now Dust River Gulch always has been a dandy place to live, fer law-abidin' folks, that is. An' there ain't no sheriff west of the Mississippi with a better pedigree than the Gulch's own J.D. Saddlesoap. He's a fine-looking mustang an' his heart's tender as a bare foot in a cactus patch.

But he don't tolerate no trouble in town."

My Review

Adorable, hilarious, short stories that make a great family, evening read! Tim Davis is a master of taking animals that children love, and creating a world of story and imagination that'll have your kids on the edge of their seats, and rolling with laughter.

Christian / Religious theme / Moral

I would not consider these Christian Fiction. But they are very clean, innocent, and teach good moral qualities.

Character/s Quality

The most important thing we look for in books, is that good and evil, according to the Bible, are clearly represented, and that evil is not presented as good.

Like any good story, there are both good protagonists, and evil antagonists. Outlaws are brought to justice by the good. Protagonists learn lessons, and grow and change as a result. There is no glorification of any ungodly behaviors.

Violence / Fear / Gore / Horror

There are no outstanding elements of these themes. They are intended to be simple, hilarious, light reads that will bring your child laughter and enjoyment.

Fantasy / Magic

There is no fantasy or magic in this series.

Romance

There are simple little romances between the animals characters. They are innocent, sweet, and generally hilarious.

Language

No foul, crude, or shady language in this series.

Drugs / Alcohol / Substance Abuse

None at all.

Final Thoughts

I read these books as a young girl several times. As my review states, they are adorable and hilarious. I would recommend these titles to anyone looking for age appropriate readers for their child's next homeschool year, or simply for enjoyment. They are very enjoyable.
