Book Summary - Kingdoms Dawn

"Sixteen year old Leinad thought he was a common farmer's son, nothing more. He wondered why his father had trained him for years to master the sword - not exactly a tool of the trade for farmers - but one tragic event initiates a world of revelation.

Only then does he begin to understand his calling - a calling no other man in the entire kingdom of Arrethtrae can fulfill - a calling given by the King Himself.

Teamed with a young slave girl, Leniad is thrust into adversity and danger - for the Dark Knight and his vicious Shadow Warriors will stop at nothing to thwart the King's plan to restore the kingdom. Leniad will need more than a sharp blade and a swift hand to fulfill his mission and survive the evil plots of the Kings sworn enemies!

Journey to Arrethtrae, where the King and His Son implement a bold plan to save their kingdom; where courage, faith, and loyalty stand tall in the face of opposition; where good will not bow to evil - and the future of a kingdom lies in the hands of a young man."

My Review

The written quality of this series is very suitable for young readers from 7 years and older. The story is well done, full of adventure, and carries a great message of faith, trust, loyalty, and courage.

I found the pacing in this series to be a little fast, but that is probably due to the age range of these books, and the approach the author takes. The reading level is simple, but not too elementary to be "childish". It is action packed, and suspenseful, and very inspiring!

These books are clean, and very suitable for the young reader.

Christian / Religious theme / Moral

This series is Christian based and is very allegorical. The author does a re-telling of Biblical events, and people through the stories of these brave young warriors.

Character/s Quality

The most important thing we look for in books, is that good and evil, according to the Bible, are clearly represented, and that evil is not presented as good.

Like any good story, there are both good protagonists, and evil antagonists. There are characters who are excellent role models, and also characters who struggle.

The author does a superb job of this in his series, and good and evil are clearly distinguished.

Violence / Fear / Gore / Horror

There are battles, sword fights, murder, tyranny, and fantastical, evil, dangerous beasts. But everything is very tactfully handled, and not overly graphic. The author does a great job of keeping suspense and sympathy for the characters without disturbing the young readers mind.

Fantasy / Magic

This is a fantasy story set in a fictional world, with fantasy beasts, but there is no magic. There is the supernatural power of the King and His Son, but that is representative of God the Father, and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romance

Romance is present in this series but it is extremely mild, clean, and tender. It is not the main focus of the story. The end of one book finds the lovers hugging, and the knight kisses his sweetheart but that is as far as it goes.

Language

No foul, crude, or shady language in this series.

Drugs / Alcohol / Substance Abuse

None at all.

Final Thoughts

I would give this series a 5 star for cleanliness, wholesome message, and a great suspenseful read for you and your kids. This would make a GREAT family read aloud. Everything is these books points towards truth, righteousness, and salvation, and is exciting and inspiring.

The first three books of Chuck Black's Kingdom Series, Kingdom's Dawn, Kingdom's Hope, and Kingdom's Edge

Series List - In Order

  1. Kingdom's Dawn

  2. Kingdom's Hope

  3. Kingdom's Edge

  4. Kingdom's Call

  5. Kingdom's Quest

  6. Kingdom's Reign

I have the first three books pictured here, but there are three other books in the Kingdom series. Chuck Black also has a sub-series to this one - The Knights of Arrethtrae - that I plan to review in the future.

Where can I find these books?

This series is available individually, or as a series across many different book stores. Formats include softcover, hardcover, kindle, e-book, and even audio book. A few of the book stores include Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Christian Book.com or even from the author's own publishing company which I have linked for you below.
